HELLO VENUS - Wiggle Wiggle [Music Video]
HELLO VENUS, a Korean pop girl group, released their fifth digital single, “Wiggle Wiggle” back in 2015. They had made a music video to accompany and promote their song and their group. In the music video, the six members were seen dancing to the beat with sexy dance moves while wearing revealing outfits. It was even reported that the music video was banned from being aired on music programs on TV because their dance moves were considered too sexy for the public audience.
The track Wiggle Wiggle was produced by Kang Dong Chul, also known by his stage name, “Brave Brothers. He once worked for YG Entertainment for four years, before he started his own, “Brave Entertainment.” He has produced songs for other various kpop groups, which are mostly girl groups, so it’s safe to say that he isn’t new to the industry anymore.
The setting of the music video captured the attention of the viewers from the very start. It seemed appealing to the viewers because of the sexy choreography -- this included twerking, wiggling of the butt, swaying and thrusting of the hips -- and the good-looking and well-groomed members that captivated the eyes of the viewers. They also played with the lighting, by either flashing party lights above them or making it dim to add to the ‘sexy-girls-in-the-club’ theme. Even the music itself, the beat, tempo, voices, and lyrics are catchy, and not hard to memorize.
This music video will most likely appeal to those in their teenage years or early adult years, since people nowadays are prone to partying and sexy dances are becoming quite a trend. It is also appealing to the fanboys around the world.
The content of the music video shows us the ‘exciting part of the sex life’, as we can read from the lyrics [translated to english]:
What is this feeling I’m getting for the first time in a while?
This heart fluttering feeling for the first time in a while
Can you see my trembling lips?
I’ll give you a great present tonight
If we were to read between the lines, with knowledge of what’s going on in the music video, we can easily understand what kind of message they’re trying to give the audience. We all think t his is ‘just a video, nothing serious’ but when it influences the youth, it can be quite a pain. The girls in the video are visibly young, and with the lyrics, they’re promoting sex at a young age. But, it can also be a possibility that, these girls were forced to do this for them to earn something in return.
The message of the music video could be referring to girls who hangout in clubs and seduce men, either with or with nothing in return. Since there are a lot of cases like these, the producers might have thought of this concept to connect with the majority of the target audience, to gain more profit. The m.v. was also made to attract more people of ages, so that they will have known the girl group, and promote them.
